    HAVABALL® REMEDIES AND PREVENTION

Provide your pet with regular interactive Havaball®sessions, including:
Stuffing the Havaball® with food or treats. Used as directed, a Havaball® interactive feeding will provide your pet with hours of physical and behavioural stimulation.

Havaball® Fetch and Retrieve: Stuff the Havaball® with one or two treats and throw it a short distance. When your pet fetches the Havaball®, the Havaball® will reward your pet. Next, encourage your pet to bring the Havaball® to you and reward each movement towards you.

Soon your pet will master fetching and retrieving, a great bonding and exercise game.

Havaball® Hide and Seek: While distracting or removing your pet from the area, stuff one or more Havaballs and hide it around the house or outside. Use a "seek Havaball®" command with your pet before you start each game, and watch your pet hunt for the Havaballs. The Havaball® will reward each successful search.

    Scenting, tracking and foraging

As part of the dog's behavioural enrichment program scenting and tracking should also be encouraged. Most homes have a grass enclosed exercise area where a dog can be let off the lead for a free run. Owners should give the dog an opportunity to search using their nose. Searching and tracking exercises have proved an excellent remedy for under stimulated and over active dogs.

    How do I do it?

Walk across the grass, pressing firmly your shoe or boots to make prints.
Place the HAVABALL with some food in it and walk back to where you have the dog tied up. This is a "free" track, no harness or long line is necessary, just let the dog off the lead to find the reward. Another tracking game to play is called "hansel & gretall". You walk to a point (ten yards), place the HAVABALL on the ground and slightly cover it over with grass. As you walk back drop small amounts of food where you are walking. Drop some food just in front of your dog and release him to find the food on the track with his nose, when he gets to the end, he gets the surprise of his HAVABALL.

The types of problems incurred by owners are chewing/destructive, barking/howling, pacing/hyper-active. Introverted behaviour such as sucking, licking and biting oneself. Paws, wrists and flank areas seem to be favourite spots to work on, although sometimes the root of its tail, seem to be a target.
Whether the dog is bored, anxious or not, behavioural enrichment is required to keep the dog happy and healthy.

Anxiety Related Disorders: Food-stuffed Havaballs are an effective way to reduce anxiety-related disorders and boredom. Stuff one or more Havaballs and give them to your pet, or hide them around your house or yard before you leave home. This will distract your pet from the stress of your leaving, and fill their time alone with appropriate, stimulating play. Use this method randomly so as not to always associate a Havaball® session with leaving. If this problem behaviour persists, contact your veterinary surgeon.
